Slowly Steve managed to make sense of his surroundings, or at least bring enough of them into focus to realize that he had no idea where they were, which sent enough of a bolt of adrenaline through his system to have him levering himself upright, because if he didn't know where they were, it could well mean they were back in Hydra's hands.
